Countdown to ‘Hamilton’: All You Need to Know About the Disney+ Film

Hollywood’s summer blockbuster season is here but unfortunately, due to the pandemic, no big movie or concert is anywhere around the corner, except, a groundbreaking musical Hamilton. The musical will stream on Disney+ starting from June 3 and is certainly the season’s major pop culture event.

The musical with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s amazing hip hop and the famous story of Alexander Hamilton was initially planned as a theatrical release in October 2021. But Disney changed its plan and now it’s coming to your homes at the beginning of the midnight of June 3. Disney has no plans of pulling it out anytime soon so it can be expected that the musical Hamilton will stay with Disney+ for quite a few months. You can stream it anytime like any other show on the platform.

Behind the whole musical stands Miranda who created and composed and stars in the show. She was inspired by Ron Chernow’s exhaustive 2004 biography about one of America’s seminal figures. The story of an orphaned immigrant with tremendous intelligence and desire who found his way out of a harsh upbringing to leave an impact on the nation before his death in a fight with Aaron Burr.

Hamilton is not just a musical show but a live capture of an actual stage performance starring Miranda, Oakland native Daveed Diggs, Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, and more. The show was shooted at Richard Rodgers Theatre which is in New York for three days in June 2016. Miranda also said that this is a three-day film shoot that has the best-prepared cast in the history of the movie world. Maybe that’s why Hamilton has won 11 Tony Awards, and the 2016 Pulitzer Prize in Drama. The show stars mostly non white characters and uses the fusion of hip hop and R&B with traditional tunes.

If you wonder what all will be there in the show, definitely you can get an idea by reading any Hamilton book. There are a number of them in the market, the famous one is Hamilton the Revolution by Miranda and Jeremy McCarter. Or, you can also watch YouTube videos on Hamilton to get an idea. Usually, it’s good to go to a show without knowing too much about it as everything will feel like new then. But this musical has a number of fast-paced raps. So you might want to listen to some of them prior to watching the show.

The show is around three hours long with an interval. You can stream this at Disney+ which costs $6.99 a month, and $69.99 per year. Now, Disney+ is also accessible in a package with ESPN+, Hulu, and Hotstar at $12.99 a month. You can stream not just Hamilton but other shows and content from ABC, Marvel, Pixar, etc. Enjoy binge-watching!
